Act 1, Scene 1

The Witches Prophecy Begins Three witches meet in a storm and plan to meet Macbeth after a battle. Their chant, “Fair is foul, and foul is fair,” sets a dark tone and introduces the theme of moral confusion.

Act 1, Scene 2

Macbeth’s Bravery King Duncan learns of Macbeth’s bravery in battle against the rebels and the traitorous Thane of Cawdor. Impressed by Macbeth’s loyalty and skill, Duncan rewards him with the title Thane of Cawdor.
