Starborne Comet “Cuppers”

Overview

Forged by an unknown creator from a starborne comet, Cuppers was an originally, non-sentient piece of tableware. However, after Cuppers was discarded and eventually ended up at a remote tavern, he was combined with an unknown substance (informally called “Space Juice”) and gained sentience through an alcoholic accident. His newlyfound “creator” Cas, took him as her adoptive son and became the adoptive son of the town of Aeolian a few years later.

After finding his new home and family, he did menial tasks in Aeolian until one day, he found a broken guitar in a nearby field. After weeks of repair, he figured out how to play the guitar using both fragmented memories from his space juice and gradual learning over time. When he was finally ready, he played his silly little tunes at the opening of the Dragon’s Nest Tavern, with songs of both unknown and known origins (such as Descender).

He then captured the eye of a distant kingdom, now residing within as the Royal Bard of the Desert Kingdom.

Powers

  • ”Space Juice”. Holding the memories of a suitable host, the consciousness of the host is overridden with the memories it holds.
  • Pure Host. This allows the user to return to its original state. The user cannot return to its state unless its body has been severed from the host item holding the Space Juice. (In this context, R!Cuppers returns to his original small cup when he has no body.)
  • Parasitic Nature. Upon entering the Pure Host state, the user can overtake a decapitated corpse or living body. However, this ability takes around 1 human year in order to fully adjust. When the user is fully adjusted to the body, its blood is overridden with Space Juice and the body’s skin turns pale.

Backstory

This section is currently a heavy work-in-progress. Short, bullet point details have been given as a substitute until further worked on.

  • A fairy named “Cas” does her usual assassination, except she finds a bottle filled with an unknown substance (“Space Juice”)
  • She goes to a tavern, gets drunk, finds a cup (coincidentally Cuppers’ vessel), pours it there, and almost accidentally drinks it until Cuppers magically goes alive but it’s floaty and doesn’t have a body
  • Cas brings Cuppers home to Aeolian, where she secretly goes to a stash of dead bodies she has yet to throw out and finds a decapitated body with overalls
  • Making sure the cup doesn’t know, Cas fits Cuppers onto the decapitated farmer while he’s asleep and the cup automatically changes its size to fit the body ()
  • Cuppers grows up in Aeolian, learning the ways of being a farmer
  • After being a farmer for a while, Cuppers finds a nearly-broken but intact guitar lying down on the ground
  • He plays the guitar like a curious child, uses his fragmented memories to learn basic melodies and chords, and learns how to play the guitar as a hobby
  • He also learns how to sing a few hymns and he gets fragments of memories of songs he never wrote (explains how he can perform “Farewell”), most likely from the space juice
  • Cuppers finds out about the upcoming Dragon’s Nest Tavern opening, he practices his songs quite arduously to ace it for the opening (and writes one called “Descender“)

Note

Although Cups did not perform “Descender” out of lore, R!Cuppers would have played it during the tavern opening.

  • When the Dragon’s Nest tavern hosts their grand opening, he goes to sing for the first time out of curiosity and wanting to try new things (open mic)
  • Eiko observes the performance, offering Cuppers a position of being a Royal Bard for an initial $50k (and a contract soon after)
  • Cuppers travels to the Desert Kingdom to take a tour from Atlas Felix (avefenix) and becomes a Desert citizen (Cas is a proud cup owner and supports the decision)
  • He travels back to Aeolian, staying in Aeolian until he receives his contract to work in the Desert
